I have included two desktop patterns and a Window Monkey <http://www.tigertech.com/> pattern that match ExKalibur's "appearance". Installing those resources is optional, though I prefer using a desktop pattern that matches the scheme currently in use on my Mac. Here is how to proceed to use the included desktop and Window Monkey patterns:
･ To install the desktop patterns, open the Desktop Patterns (called Desktop Pictures in Mac OS 8) application found in your Control Panels folder inside your System Folder and ﾒdrag and dropﾓ the clippings on the applicationﾕs window. Alternatively, you can use the regular ﾒCopyﾓ and ﾒPasteﾓ commands: switch to the Finder, double-click on a clipping file, choose ﾒCopyﾓ from the Edit menu (or press cmd-C), open the Desktop Patterns application, and then choose ﾒPasteﾓ from the ﾒEditﾓ menu (or press cmd-V). You can then use the Desktop Patterns application to change your desktop pattern at will.
･ Do the same with the ﾒWindow Monkey ExKalibur ppatﾓ clipping, using the Window Monkey control panel as the destination. To make such a pattern available in all your windows, leave the ﾒCascading Finder Window Patternsﾓ option ﾒONﾓ and assign that pattern to the root window of your hard drive.
Using the ExKalibur Pattern Toggler application:
I've also included a small application called ExKalibur Pattern Toggler. It will install into, or remove from, the ExKalibur scheme "ppat" resources (i.e. "patterns") to be used in menus (see below for a screen shot). The general effect is one of "transparency", provided you also install the corresponding desktop patterns as described above. In other words, using this application is optional, but if you do, then you should also make sure you install a matching desktop pattern. To use ExKalibur Pattern Toggler, proceed this way:
･ Make a copy of the original ExKalibur scheme and drop it on ExKalibur Pattern Toggler. The application will install the appropriate resources and then quit automatically.
･If the scheme has already been modified by ExKalibur Pattern Toggler to include patterns and you decide to remove them, just drop the scheme on the application while holding the option key down and the appropriate "ppat" resources will be removed.
